Review of Imagining Argentina (2003) by Rachel D — 19 Nov 2007
Antonio Banderas and Emma Thompson star in this drama/thriller based on actual events. It's about a guy who's wife is kidnapped and his search to find her. Assisting him is his ability to look into the past (visions by touching family members) and follow the clues that will hopefully lead him to his wife. The events in the movie is shocking but I didn't like the way it was done in the film. I would have liked to see more time spent on the "bad guys" but I suppose this is about the journey of this guy finding his wife. Still, there is a reason this movie never made it to cinemas, imo, the subject the film focuses on I hardly knew anything about, and I didn't learn much from it in this film. Pity though, as it had the potential. Banderas provides most of the music for the film and the scenery was pretty nice.
Not such a good movie, but better than average and most of the other low budget sh*t you get these days. I'd say give it a try if you have nothing else to rent, you might just enjoy it.
