Review of I'm Still Here (2010) by Matthew H — 18 Dec 2010
The more I think about the movie, the more I despise it. The underscore of this faux documentary - dehumanization through celebrity and celebrity-obsessed media - is lost in the crude and leg-dragging narrative, the admittance by its makers that it was a hoax and its painful similarity to trash reality television.
For satire of this thorough an effort to resonate, it must offer more than imitation... But maybe that's the point. If that's the case, then Kenneth Turan is right: the speculation behind the film is far more interesting than the film itself.
The Letterman interview will go down in history; the film will be omitted.
