Review of I'm Still Here (2010) by Michelle M — 01 Jan 2011

At first I didn't know what to make of this movie. I have always liked Joaquin, and that goes far with me for truly I am very picky on who I like and don't like in Hollywood. While watching the film I couldn't help but think, is this really true, did this really happen to Joaquin? I really didn't know for it was a random pick of a movie for me to watch this New Years day. The documentary is very raw, emotionally disturbing in many, many ways. He is rude, disgusting, unfathomable and really ridiculous, yet during the time I watched the film I couldn't help but feel for him and the anger within him, many people in this world deal with this type of anger regularly. And unfortunately on such a level as Joaquin portrayed in this film, so I was really connecting with him on a level of real life, what really happens to men who get out of control, over their heads, and truly just plain full of themselves. I almost stopped watching it just because I was getting so pissed off by his behavior towards himself, woman and others who cared for him. Then after watching the David Letterman skit I thought, hmm I don't remember anything about this, and even though I am not big on reading gossip, this was something I knew I would know about so my suspicion on this film started to come about. Also he was pretty overboard on some scenes and Mr. Diddy seemed at times to be playing a role, for he is a horrible actor to begin with, so it showed thru on this film. (please P Diddy stick with your music just as Joaquin should stay with films).

In the end I knew he would just suddenly pack up and go off to an island, and we all wanted to see in the end, will he kill himself? Nope. He's still here, and whether or not this is based off of Joaquin's life or not, we all will never truly know. Yet I can say there were parts in this film that made me believe not all of this was made up either. Joaquin, if you read this someday contemplating about your life, who you are and what your purpose is. Know this, You are one lucky mother *** who got an opportunity of a lifetime, a precious gift that not many ever receive in life, recognize it and appreciate it. Otherwise leave.

On another note, Casey did a fabulous job making this film into a piece of art. His film came out beautifully even with all of Mr. Phoenix's mumble jumble bullshit, I found Casey's filming to stand out above all else making it a film worth watching....Good job Casey!

Do I recommend this film, yes but only to those who can handle depressing and exploiting films, otherwise forget it for this film will piss you off.
