Review of I'm Not There (2007) by Trystan D — 15 Dec 2010
Allusive art-house biopic concerning the life of Bob Dylan. Todd Haynes film has a limited audience because it will have an unsatisfying structure for most, however it is beautifully shot and the director's vision felt completely uncompromised.
If I'm picky, Bale and Gere's sections are not as interesting as the others (reflected in the more fleeting screen time they inhabit for sure) and some of the needless poor accent work by peripheral characters in a couple of scenes took me out of the movie.
On the whole though, I love the music and was astounded and often moved by this considered and complex film. Gainsburg, Franklin and Blanchett give stand-out performances.
