Review of I'm Not There (2007) by Gavin M — 07 Aug 2014
An exceptional portrayal of the life of Bob Dylan told by six different actors. Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett give the best Bob Dylan performances, but it's Cate Blanchett that really sweeps you off her feet with her portrayal of Dylan.
She is the most believable, from his looks, to his clothes, mannerisms, everything. She should have taken the prize home that year for best supporting actress. But I would have loved to have seen more of Christian Bale, I thought he didn't have enough scenes, but when he was onscreen, you couldn't take your eyes off him as he too gave an exceptional Dylan performance as well.
There's a lot you may not understand as I did, but that's the way I think director Todd Haynes wanted to make this movie. Because Dylan is a strange bird, but that's okay cause as a fan of Bob Dylan, that's the way I like it.
You would have to be a true Dylan fan to understand most of it or maybe not, I could be wrong. But just to sit back and watch the performances from both Bale and Blanchett is enough for me.
