Review of I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK (2006) by Eleni X — 27 Mar 2008
I have read a lot of people's reviews saying they hated it because it's not Chan Wook Park's style (He directed oldboy- the vengeance trilogy.) There are still scenes where it is evident it his style.
I myself, found nothing wrong with this movie, in fact I enjoyed it. it's mood throughout reminds me of "Eternal sunshine of the Spotless Mind." The story is about a girl who believes she is a cyborg- she believes this because of her childhood, so she is put in an institution. There she meets Rain's character and you see how their relationship develops. For me, this movie was about accepting people for their flaws and oddness. If you sit and think about it for awhile, you can relate to the characters. Their flaws and insecurities. Searching for the meaning of your existence and finally finding it. Go into this movie with an open mind and you will enjoy it. Both main characters did a great job. Rain is adorable and Lim gives a strong performance. Enjoying the protagonists of this film is easy. If you don't understand it the first time, watch it again =] Also, there are some absolutely beautiful scenes and this movie will have you smiling the entire time.
