Review of I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK (2006) by Derek B — 22 Oct 2008
A magical and beautiful experience, even if the narrative doesn't always make complete sense... but that can wait for the repeat viewings which this film certainly deserves. Quite light-hearted and often funny, but not to be taken lightly even so.
The images are vivid and luminous, audacious even - for example the scene where Young-goon imagines herself as very tiny and is swept away by an insect. I also really loved the opening credit sequence, so few directors bother to use these effectively (a couple of other exceptions for example being Se7en, Pi, Casino.
..). I see from other reviews here that people draw comparisons with Amelie, and I find it hard to disagree. They are both outstanding films.
