Review of I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK (2006) by Diederik V — 14 Aug 2009
If you're a big fan of the Vengeance Trilogy, and haven't seen any other films from Chan-Wook Park except those three, don't expect this movie to fall under the same style of film-making. If you wanna see more shocking endings, action-scenes or vulgar humor I suggest you go and rent Joint Security Area or Three Extremes. This movie shows a much softer side of Chan-Wook Park. He wrote the script for his little daughter (you can kind of compare it with "Lady In The Water" from Shyamalan, who wrote it as a bedtime-story for his little girl.) It's a very original romantic comedy with a great cast, even though I normally couldn't stand Korea's "cuty face" Rain, he did a really good job on this one. The plot is tight and surprisingly amusing, every scene has been well thought about and the score is just plain beautiful.
I don't like this movie to fall under "Romantic comedy's" with all the crap that's floating around in that genre on the dvd-shelfs. And I know it's not a genre, but I'd rather call it a feel-good film. And no doubt, you'll feel good too after you've watched it. Highly recommended!
