Review of I'll Sleep When I'm Dead (2003) by J D — 09 Jan 2008
"Sleep" is the operative word here. I actually fell asleep for part of the movie, which is an extremely rare occurrence for me, and the characters themselves seemed like they were mostly sleepwalking through their roles.
There were probably two instances in the movie where a character displayed something other than brooding seriousness. The preview made this one look much more intense than it was; there wasn't really much in the way of suspense at all (as one reviewer pointed out, we're shown what happened to spark Owen's quest for revenge within 15 minutes of the movie's beginning).
Clive Owen is an expert at brooding intensity, but with everyone else in the cast doing the same thing, it was overkill here. Pretty disappointed with this one.
