Why does Hollywood do such a bad job of turning fairly promising raw materials into a decent movie ? A decent premise, some likable characters and some likable actors to play those characters. The resulting movie is slow and directionless and the characters have roughly the depth of cardboard.
If you are 70+ and female you may be able to relate. Everyone else needs to stay well away.
