Review of Ill Manors (2012) by Paul W — 07 Jan 2013
Ben Drew plays most of the same hands here as Dexter Fletcher did in Wild Bill but with a lot less subtlety and emotion. This film was killed in the editing suite with the use of tilt-shift, time lapse, freeze frames and stylised music inserts which describe characters back-story in irritating 3 minute rap songs.
Riz Ahmed's diamond in the rough performance is the only thing to survive Ben Drews over-direction. For a less preachy and dismal drug melodrama set against the Olympic backdrop of 2012 East London, Dexter is your man.
