I've probably been caught in a generous mood, but I'm still of the opinion that this was more credible than it perhaps was expected to be. The fact that I never even knew there was a third instalment of this series was why I assumed it would be terrible, but it actually had some good old classic horror swagger about it.

Other than a tenuous link to the other films by way of the killer being an urban legend, there wasn't really any connection to the previous instalments, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

It did however follow the same concept of a group of teenagers taking a fatal secret to their grave, only for them to soon live to regret it when a trench-coated fisherman armed with a deadly hook comes hunting the culprits down one by one.

Admittedly it wasn't up to the standard of the first two but it still maintained a good level of gore, jumps, and other key slasher attributes. The main pitfall was the ending though, as it had built itself up nicely to that key unmasking of the killer moment, only to be a completely cheap, and anticlimactic conclusion.

Unfortunately, this is what will stick with me when I try to recall this film, and will ultimately ensure I don't fully recommend it as a must see movie. It does flow very nicely throughout though, and based on historic trends of horror trilogies, should have been a worse a watch than it actually was.

Given the downward spiral in this franchise though, I wouldn't have my fingers crossed for a fourth episode anytime soon.
