Review of Ikiru (1952) by Stephan F — 02 Aug 2008
Another beautiful piece of work by Kurosawa. Shimura plays his character with such subtlety and nuance, each smile and word have such resonance. The supporting cast is great as well, and as always, the cinematography adds to the beauty of the film.
Musically, this is one of my favourite soundtracks, from the powerful opening theme to Watanabe's song that plays throughout the film in variations. Another masterpiece from Kurosawa, and one of the most touching pieces of film.
