Review of Ikiru (1952) by Michaela D — 24 Jan 2008
An incredibly emotional film and very powerful. I would be shocked if someone was not moved by the wake scenes, even I (as much as I hate to admit it) had a tear in my eye to see that people who hardly knew Watanabe were more affected by his death than his family and work collegues.
An interesting plot which begs the question: what would you do in that situation? It also shows how self-centred and self-obsessed the human race can be, and highlights the depressing fact that it takes a disaster to remedy this.
Absolutely incredible!!
