Review of Ikiru (1952) by Joe L — 15 Feb 2009
To live indeed. this is a great kurosawa film. it really showed the value of life no matter how long you have left. takeshi shumura is wonderful in his role as the hopeless watanabe. It's a beautiful film with a wonderful ending that stresses the importance of just living your life the best you can no matter what your circumstance is.
Also how even someone who doesn't think they are that important really can make a difference in the lives of others. An interesting departure from most of the samurai films Kurosawa made during the 50s but this movie stands among them as an equal giant and classic.
