Review of Ikiru (1952) by Amakiri B — 01 Nov 2009
It might be the most thematically beautiful movie ever made. of any film, this might be the one that contains the meaning of life. narratively brilliant, yes, technically excellent, of course, great performances, a given.
the film transcends its own tangible achievements by taking on the greatest of all questions: when faced with death, what power do we ultimately have to make something of our lives? to watch it is a lesson in storytelling, craftsmanship, and life.
