Review of Ikiru (1952) by Peter F — 05 Dec 2013
While Akira Kurosawa will always be remembered for his samurai epics, Ikiru is a deeply moving and intricate fable that only he could have perfected. While it's commentary about 1950s Japan has more-or-less aged well, it's the pure humanism on display here that really makes the film a classic, and an unexpected plot turn mid-way through the film really does wonders for the film's most intimate narrative.
My personal favorite of the director's immense body of work.
