Review of Igby Goes Down (2002) by Matt B — 03 Jan 2008
Brutally funny and still touching, filled with quotable line after quotable line. The parts that go over the top (and some of the scenes with Susan Sarandon do push into caricature) seem less jarring over time, while the stuff that is dead on - the overall tone, and the fine acting by Golblum, Culkin and Danes - just seems more so.
This is one of those movies that expands tremendously with rewatchings. It is both depressing and exhilarating, but the sharpness of the comedy comes more in focus with every viewing.
