Review of Igby Goes Down (2002) by Nuala M — 10 Jun 2012
A sharp and observant dark comedy about the cynical son of an upper-class New York family who strikes out on his own to escape the demons of his past and forge his own identity. With echoes of Catcher in the Rye, this film has a wickedly funny cast and quite a few moving moments amidst the adult humour.
The film's fatal flaw is that it asks the audience to care about a young man who is only likeable in comparison to all the other crazies in his life - then again, that could just be the point.
