Review of Igby Goes Down (2002) by Alec B — 15 May 2010
Interesting characters, good performances, witty cutting dialog, a fun movie to watch.
In an upscale NY setting where talented people live shallow lives Igby is trying to find a purpose in life in a sort of Catcher in the Rye with humor plot.
I liked that it mostly didn't fall into the overly connected plot lines like many of these 'fresh' movies try to do (see crash/darco/etc.).
Main criticism:
Don't knock a character by showing them on the john, such a childish way to do it. Have the character say or do something which represents their flaws instead. Also don't glorify drug use.
