Review of if.... (1968) by Christopher R — 07 Oct 2007
This film would not be made today, and it was almost not released in '69, a terrifyingly bleak and funny film that follows Mick Travis' descent into revolutionary mania (real or imagined) against the totalitarianism of the modern English state.
The viewer is left in the uneasy position of identification with characters who take their rage to its logical conclusion in Lindsay Anderson's horrific climax. This is no Hogwarts boarding school fantasy.
It makes modern anarcho-fantasias like 'V For Vendetta' look even stupider than they already are. A classic.
