Review of if.... (1968) by Scott W — 04 Sep 2011
Lent an epic tone by being split up into chapters, this character piece teeters on the edge of sanity for its entire running time. You can see why the main characters become slowly unhinged, and you can feel the incessant torture of a schoolday and its instigators like a session of Chinese water torture.
Malcolm McDowell is an intimidating young force, and its clear why Kubrick chose him for A Clockwerk Orange after seeing this.
