Review of Idlewild (2006) by Michael B — 21 Aug 2007
The hip-hop doesn't work with it being an otherwise, realistic period-piece musical. And it hits some silly melodramatic notes. But there is some remarkably brilliant filmmaking weaved in. Every effect with photographs during the beginning credits and at the end is cool and innovative.
And many of the visuals are nothing short of spectacular. Andre's sex scene in a thunderstorm, the end car chase, and almost every musical number is brilliantly composed and leaves you mesmerized.
So I forgive it its flaws, and give this one my recommendation.
