Review of Idiocracy (2006) by Staffan W — 06 May 2012
Pvt. Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson) is an average guy who is selected to be placed under experimental hibernation for a year. However, Joe is accidentally kept under until 2505. He emerges to discover that social intelligence has degenerated to the point where he has become the smartest man in the world.
Idiocracy, directed with sharp wit by Mike Judge, is a biting satire on American entertainment, consumer culture, and politics. It probably won't attain the same cult status as the endlessly rewatchable Office Space, but the strong premise of Idiocracy carries the narrative a long way.
