Review of Identity (2003) by Baurushan J — 04 Aug 2013
The story is about a lawyer played by Alfred Molina who figures out a convict's murder case played by Pruitt Taylor Vince who says that he murdered ten people. We are then given a variety of ten strangers who are trapped in a motel in a remote desert town during a rainstorm.
Ed (John Cusack) is a bright and resourceful chauffeur working for actress Caroline Suzanne (Rebecca De Mornay). George York (John C. McGinley) is a concerned husband trying to find help for his wife (Leila Kenzle, who was struck by Caroline's limo.
Paris (Amanda Peet) is a prostitute who wants to move on to a better life. And Rhodes (Ray Liotta) is a police detective who has in his custody Robert Maine (Jake Busey), a dangerous and deranged criminal.
As motel manager Larry played by John Hawkes tries to care for his customers, an unknown serial killer is taking them down one by one unexpectedly. As the pile of bodies rise, they struggle to find out who the killer is also learning that each one of them has a secret which brought them to the motel.
Oh and do you want to know what the twist ending was? It turns out that all the different characters at the motel including the killer himself who was actually this little boy were just characters inside the convict's head.
The reason why I spoilt that is because this is a complex film and it should be watched numerous times to finally get the meaning of this film. I remember watching this movie in college and I definitely found myself liking it.
This movie is a great horror/mystery/thriller that should be studied for how well it was made. Trust me because I did. Identity gets a 10/10.
