Takashi Miike's most famous ultraviolent film suffers from unoriginal squib deaths and an overuse of CGI. Moreover, its idiosyncratic tone is good for a few laughs, but ultimately leads to the film thinking itself far smarter, funnier, and more stylish than it actually is.
