Review of Ice Age (2002) by Harry W — 14 Oct 2013
Ice Age was a great animated film as a kid, and now I find my opinion of it hasn't changed.
If anything, Ice Age has grown in esteem with me because I now have a greater appreciation for the humour, the animation, the voice acting and all the themes that Ice Age explores in terms of extinction and family in a comedic and yet somewhat serious manner. It deals with the importance of friendship as well and even to a lesser extent, homosexuality through the presence of homosexual Rhinocerouses which it plays off casually which is cool.
And it's premise is a good one because it follows a journey through the Ice Age with a group of great characters as they go through all kinds of funny and serious territories and situations to get to where they're going, including facing an erupting volcano and racing down a frozen slide. It's a fun story to follow and it explores all kinds of dynamics along the way and is full of all the colourful characters to do so, matched with fine voice acting from Ray Romano, Dennis Leary and John Leguizamo.
And the animation is impeccable. Going into an effort to ensure that everything looks strongly colourful and aesthetically pleasing, the animators of Ice Age ensure that its a memorable visual experience through the full feature and the humourous little short movie at the start which ties into the plot well.
The Ice Age soundtrack is also great.
Essentially, Ice Age delivers the good animation and humour you could hope for, and it's certainly a memorable experience.
