Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Areyesg — 22 Feb 2018
A masterpiece. Definitely a must-see. Since its genre is very simple, the major climax is a soft one, nevertheless that does not ruin the film. It is a well-executed, adapted and enjoyable ride. It lets you decide whether what truth you want to believe.
In terms of technicity, the film is spectacular; the visual effects are remarkable, the editing is very well done and the soundtrack is spot-on. The direction is beyond belief. Not only the direction was good, but the performances too; both male and female supporting roles were powerful.
Sebastian Stan is a beloved actor, but in this film his role is so infuriating and he delivers such a great performance that you end up disliking him. Allison Janney is something else, her character is despiteful and yet you love it so much, her performance is truly award-worthy.
Now, Margot Robbie is outstanding. She portrays Tonya so well that you know that she definitely was committed to the role. Learned figure skating, injured herself and still managed to produce the film.
She put her heart and soul into this project and you feel and see that on the final product. Her performance delivered such an emotion and depth that you go up and down with this emotional rollercoaster that was Tonya Harding’s rise and fall.
