Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Wael — 17 Feb 2018
Margott Robbie delivers such a strong and unbound performance, portraying figure-skating champion Tonya Harding, backed-up with a truthful plot and a magnificent picture and direction, alternating between well-acted sequences and events, and authentic re-created interviews with the people involved in the story.
Another performance that stands out is Allison Janney's, who portrays Harding's mother with absolute excellence. On a side note, I really love the growing portion of cinema that sheds light on women, especially the films about real-life women who are pioneers in their fields (this year's 'I, Tonya' and 'Battle of the Sexes', and last year's 'Hidden Figures' and 'Jackie', and lots of other projects).
All in all, the film makes for a well-executed, very enjoyable, ride.
