Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Ledaumas — 31 Dec 2017
This was a 2 hour movie that didn't drag. The movie explains Tonya's behavior that ruined her life. This screenwriter should be nominated because, while Tonya and her ex seem despicable at first, we sympathize with them as they explain their really bad decisions.
We'll never know how involved Tonya was in trying to eliminate Nancy, but you can see that Tonya trusted the man she thought was her savior who helped her get away from her abusive mother. The incident was incredibly stupid in so many ways.
After all, even though Nancy got the endorsements for being a classy skater, while Tonya got no endorsements, Tonya's skating was much more powerful than all other skaters. At least in that time period when she could perform the triple axels.
Too bad Tonya's ex and his friends didn't know enough about skating to see that Tonya could win on her own against Nancy, and anyone else. I saw the Olympics that year. No one could perform under those circumstances and Tonya did indeed crumble.
That should have been her punishment. I don't understand how the judge had jurisdiction to ban her from skating. I find that most unfair. It's also pretty amazing that Margot Robbie is only 27 years old and produced this movie.
She picked a good subject who needs our sympathy now.
