Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Tyler G — 08 Sep 2018
Always dubious about any film quoted as hilarious on the cover. In contradiction, actually found myself horrified by the level of abuse Harding appeared to have to deal with in her life's journey. Was it only hilarious because she came from a working-class background? If this had been a portrayal of a middle-class athlete, it would have been shown as heroic or tragic, but Harding's background allows it to fall into slapstick.
The stars are for Robbie and Janney's performances, which really were outstanding, but despite Robbie's assurances on the extra features that she found the script humorous, personally find this quite a disturbing take on the events, especially given how much Harding lost during the fallout of the Kerrigan case.
