Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Hardy C — 22 Dec 2017
The theme of the film is simple; should we pity, blame or admire Tonya Harding for all the crap, emotional baggage, bad choices, atheltic talent, duplicity, perseverance and stupidity in her life? The direction of the film was smart in that it allowed the viewer to reach their own conclusions whether she personally plotted to assault Kerrigan.
The prologue prepares the viewer for this massaging of truth from the get go, so anyone expecting a tell all expose-docudrama will be disappointed. Robbie was very good, as were all the performances, but the scene stealer was Paul Walter Hauser's portrayal of Shawn Eckhardt, as delusional a character as one is likely to ever see on screen, let alone real life.
