Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Margarita S — 26 Apr 2018
I, Tonya (2018) is arguably one of the best films of the year so far. Margot Robbie delivers one of her best on-screen performances, if not her best, to portray the disgraced American figure skater, Tonya Harding.
Allison Janney's performance as Harding's abusive mother steals every scene, and Sebastian Stan as Jeff is fantastic. The film compellingly depicts a controversial story about fame and representation and does so with style.
The inclusion of mockumentary-style interviews and voiceovers make the experience much more personal and engaging. I, Tonya is hilarious, but never undermines the tragedy and seriousness of the story it is telling.
Highly recommended.
