Review of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) by Tim B — 15 Jun 2009
A really dumb plot with really dumb plot twists. The entire synposis of this movie is for the poops. First of all, the killer's methods are absurd. If he tracked Julie down, why wouldn't he just wait until she was alone in her apartment to kill her? No, he has to pretend he's part of a radio show and send her and her friends to the Bahamas during off-season.
On top of that, once she gets there, he takes the time to kill everybody else first that, again, have nothing to do with his M.O. He still wears a slicker in the Bahamas (nice cover-up there) and seems to have a motion-sensor with his hat over his face.
The characters themselves are mostly dumb asses too (the tanning booth... what the hell was the point?). Cannon does what he can (the setting is gorgeous and doesn't hurt the film at all) and gives some fairly suspenseful moments.
Actors were all pretty decent too. I'm happy to say that Freddie Prinze Jr. actually impressed me here and gave a focused show! Who knew? Jennifer Love Hewitt also was good but when it focused in on her tits or when she wore wet, tight shirts, any credit for her was erased from my brain.
Pretty good soundtrack as well (Whitesnake, Swirl 360, Hooverphonic) but it isn't enough. It's your typical tweeny slasher with "boo" scares everywhere, false dream sequences, lame (and long) monologues, unnecessary subplots and a lame ending.
Stick with the original if you want some decent slasher fun with teens.
