Review of I Served the King of England (2007) by Widjaja F — 12 Mar 2009
A truly old school style European movie, about the small man in big times. Barnev does a great job in portraying Dite, a naive man who wants to be a millionaire. The slow road to succes and in the same time disaster which leads him to jail and consequently to self interrogation and redemption was done quite good.
The movie has the playfullness and erotism of the pre-war European era, and the war era which maybe wasn't so goodly done as the pre war era. All in all a very serious topic wrapped in a semi sweet wrapping filled with satyrical dressing.
