Review of I Sell the Dead (2008) by Peter P — 22 Mar 2011
Arthur Blake confesses to a priest about his life as a grave robber. His partner in crime, Willie Grimes, just had his head chopped off and Arthur is expected to get the same treatment in just a few hours. You see, Arthur and Grimes have been framed by somebody who led a trail of body parts directly to where they live, sending them to jail.
According to Arthur, Grimes and him haven't spoken after a spat which took place on an island where they tried to steal some 'living dead' corpses from Cornelius Murphy.
Before their little spat and break up, Arthur was trained by Grimes in the art of grave robbing. They would steal corpses and give them to their boss, Dr. Quint, played by Angus Scrimm. One day they discover a corpse buried at a cross roads, a woman with a stake in her heart and garlic around her neck. They assume it's nothing but a stupid superstition, removing the stake and the garlic. That's when all hell breaks loose. Those things were there for a reason: Vampire!!!
The priest, though, is not really interested in Arthur's stories, but in one particular rival gang for which Arthur and Grimes had to deal with. This eventually leads us into the tale of Cornelius Murphy and his gang. His father is never really shown until the very end which was a perfect twist in my opinion when you see it.
The film isn't hilarious. It has it's moments of horror comedy and it wasn't a bad ride, even if a bit meandering at times.
