Review of I Origins (2014) by Nathan M — 10 Jan 2015
I have really enjoyed Mike Cahill's other films, but I have had some reservations about them being too emotionless and bordering on too in love with its own science. Unfortunately, I Origins has all of these problems in spades, and nearly none of the up sides of the previous films.
Pitt is one of those performers who is perfect at being intriguing without really showing you what the character is feeling, and while that works for a supporting character, it can be frustrating with the audience's emotional entry into this world.
I don't usually mind Cahill's ambiguous plot that slowly unfolds as the film progresses, but this one just felt so abstract that it was hard to get in sync with. I know there's an audience out there for these kind of sci fi films, but I Origins didn't work for me.
