Fire Marshall Bill has come a long way! While Jim Carrey may have gotten famous by playing manic whack jobs, I believe he is at his best when playing characters that are more complex. An EXCELLENT example of this is "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (one of my favorite films of all time!).

The story of Steven Russel is not only complex it's downright unfathomable. After finding out at an early age that he is adopted, I imagine Russel must have felt like he had the rug pulled out from underneath him. He had lost his identity. So he subsequently spends the rest of his adult life as a con-man, assuming numerous identities and pulling the rug out from underneath other people.

Jim Carrey's performance feels similar to his portrayal of Andy Kaufman. He's a goof ball that loves to keep people wondering what's real and what isn't.

Toss in a few no-holds-barred love scenes between Carrey and Ewan McGregor, sprinkle on plenty of irreverent dark humor and you get one very entertaining movie.
