Review of I Love You Phillip Morris (2010) by Kenneth R — 12 Aug 2011

A great comedy is one with adaptability and one that can survive the test of time, one that's still funny years from now. I said previously that "Yes Man" was one of those comedies (while Superbad was not). I will restate that thesis here. I Love You Phillip Morris is the greater of the 21st century (hell, of all film history's) romantic/comedies. It's filled with great jokes, characters, and plot. It's actually funny how by the end of it, even though it had great jokes and lines, you want to call it a Romance movie, and this is not a bad thing, this actually shows how it's one of the greater of blended genre movies. While some would say that this is an exaggerated and fanciful version of the real-life events it's what movies do, dress things up and makes them more entertaining (although the real-life events were pretty damned interesting from the start). This, along with Yes Man, is starting to restore my faith in Jim Carrey even with that disappointing (but hopefully not) looking Penguin movie.

Kudos Jim, kudos to you restoring the comedy genre back to where it all came from, ACTUALLY COMEDY!
