Review of I Love You Phillip Morris (2010) by Shane D — 08 Dec 2011
I am both equally apologetic for Jim Carrey's worst moments as I am indifferent to the sub-par efforts of McGregor's career. Carrey gets a free pass for life off the back of ETERNAL SUNSHINE and THE TRUMAN SHOW and McGregor hasn't made a proper decent film since the 90s.
Having said that, it was a treat to watch them both camp their way through this film. It never really knew whether or not it wanted to be a quirky comedic piece or whether it was more dramatic which was probably its biggest flaw as at times when Carrey was in full flight you felt like you were watching LIAR LIAR, then there would be some moments (nicely anchored by McGregor) that were much more balanced.
It was thoroughly enjoyable however if not a little inconsistent.
