Review of I Love You, Daddy (2017) by Sevenother P — 15 Mar 2018
I'm still an admirer of Louis CK, in spite of his shameful onanistic predilections, but this film was just so boring as to be unwatchable. The only, only good thing about this was the lovely Rose Byrne who really shone as a starlet whom Louis (the producer) tries to woo.
The performances weren't bad per se, but the dialogue was often clunky, especially Chloe Moretz's lines and she's not yet enough of an actress to make it work. I wasn't a fan of the black and white filmography which, although dramatic in terms of contrast, shadow and light, just made a bad film worse.
Louis funded this movie through selling his standup and webisodes online, some of which I bought myself, so I guess everybody got paid despite it missing out on general release. It's a shame Louis may never work again, sentenced to ignominious exile by the court of public opinion. It's even more of a shame that this is, potentially his final work and it was just so bad.
