Review of I Like Killing Flies (2004) by Tony O — 19 Jan 2011
There are few genres I enjoy more than the quirky character driven documentary. I Like Killing Flies is excellent because it simply entertains us by allowing the subject to talk and talk and talk. The camera is hand held and cheap, extremely close and not concerned with any of the typical traps of "cinema".
It made me feel closer to Kenny Shopsin, the eccentric restaurant owner profiled in the film, and as such it's a perfect way to experience his brash, hilarious, and seemingly never ending philosophies.
