I really wish that this movie would have been better. Kevin Williamson hit it out of the ball park with Scream and so he wrote another teen slasher film. However, I Know What You Did Last Summer is exactly the kind of slasher film that Scream intentionally makes fun of.
The reason Scream was so good is because the characters were smart and had depth and they knew what to expect based on horror movies they have seen. Not to mention the acting was very good. Not only was the acting horrible in this movie, but it just wasn't a good film.
The storyline was actually original and I liked it, but the way it was brought onto the screen was not very original at all. It's based on a book of the same name, but, judging by the source material, I don't feel like it was fit to be a teen slasher flick.
Not nearly enough death, or suspense, or atmosphere.
