Review of I Hate Valentine's Day (2009) by Andy W — 08 Nov 2009
Wow- a film written and directed by a woman- Nia Vardalos scores BIG time on this romantic comedy hit! Vardalos plays the role of Genevieve Gernier, a thirty-something woman who during her adolescence experiences her parent's divorce as a result of her father cheating on her mother.
Years go by and now the owner of a popular flower shop in Brooklyn, she lives by her five days rule- in other words, she dates men and after five days it is over. That way she does not feel pain, hurt, and enjoys life carefree.
She manages to live and date along those lines until one good day when a handsome guy visits her shop looking for flowers. Turns out he owns the restaurant near her shop. After some time they decide to date and Greg (played by John Corbett) must abide by her rules and gives her a taste of her own medicine! Genevieveâ??s two gay friends were charming and hilariousâ?¦the movie offers a good storyline, itâ??s a little witty and perhaps corny but overall I enjoyed it very much! Good supporting cast and a great date film and yes very much recommended!!!
