Review of I Feel Pretty (2018) by Jason K — 22 Apr 2018
Entire audience laughed all the way thru this gem. Critics are thinking way too hard as they slice and dice and analyze way past point of just enjoying. Critics also have a hard time with bikini contest, which got the loudest response of the crowd.
Remember critics, the head injury allowed her to see her beauty, it didn't make the world suddenly break free from socially constructed and constricted views of beauty...thus it makes complete sense she didn't win and also sense that she didn't care.
People are naturally attracted to those with confidence and that's what happens in this film. It didn't make the world see her as an unreasonably thin Hollywood star which still is the standard of beauty.
..they noticed her because she saw herself as the beautiful woman she really was. Protofeminists thinking she is too pretty to play this role completely miss the point. In archaic Hollywood system she would be cast as comic relief like Janine Garrofolo at best.
I loved this movie for what it was and what it achieved to be. Funny, well packaged, warm, engaging.
