Review of I Feel Pretty (2018) by Albie S — 22 Apr 2018
I Feel Pretty (Movie review #2).
I went into the newest Amy Schumer movie with average expectations, I expected to get a few laughs in and to leave the theater with at least a smirk on my face. Unfortunately Amy Schumer movies have been headed downhill and fast.
Trainwreck (4.5 out of 5 stars) was the movie that introduced me to Amy Schumer as an actress and I thought it was one of the best comedies, and still is, that I had ever seen. I then remember seeing the movie snatched, the second Amy Schumer movie I saw and while it was nowhere near as good as Trainwreck I didn't feel it was horrible and it was worth watching one time (2 out of 5 stars). Now we come to the movie I Feel Pretty and I think it should have been called I Feel Unfunny.
99 out of 100 jokes fell completely flat. The story was just another version of Shallow Hal, or perhaps even Big (shown in the movie briefly) except this movie was very poorly made, so was Shallow Hal, at least what I remember of it. So not only was the main character not funny at all but all of the supporting cast had no emotion or anything memorable. Rory Scovel who plays Amy's love interest has a line or 2 that may have made me smile but was it worth it, absolutely not. I cannot recommend staying away from this movie enough.
The movie did have a good message in the end about how self image should be about more then how you look and that you should love yourself no matter what, but get that message somewhere else.
Ending.
The ending was forgettable and I had to write this review right after seeing the movie because I already blocked the horribleness out of my head and now that Im remembering it I'm almost getting angry again. It takes me walking out of a movie usually for me to give it a BOMB or 0 out of 10. Perhaps I'm being to harsh, but Amy Schumer needs to do better and so do the directors and producers. I think one saving face for this movie could have been if they made it an R rated movie and not pg-13 because toning down Amy Schumer is probably not a good idea. Based off the premise of the story though Im guessing they wanted to reach a wider (no pun intended) and younger audience.
2/10 1 out of 5 stars.
