Review of I Feel Pretty (2018) by Karen G — 06 May 2018
The only explanation I can think of for these terrible reviews is that there is some conspiracy to keep this movie from being seen. Not only is it entertaining and FUNNY -- there are real laughs the whole way through - but its message is one that 99.5 percent of women can relate to. When my daughters are older I would like them to see this movie for its great message and its heart. I go to the movies to laugh and feel good. So on that count, 5 stars for this movie.
I'm not a big Amy Schumer fan, but I wanted to see this because I was intrigued by the premise: average woman becomes convinced she's got supermodel looks and acts accordingly - and the world, responding to her new confidence and comfort in her own skin, opens up to her. A great message.
I have been burned by critical reviews before so I have learned to be suspicious of them. So glad I ignored them to see this. Why do so many critics seem to be uninterested in having fun or laughing, instead praising only dark and depressing movies? Why harp on Michelle William's voice? It was totally part of the plot and part of the message! It's like one grouchy critic wrote a review and all the other critics copied it. That doesn't explain the low audience rating for this... did any other women review this? I really don't get it.
If you like fun, uplifting, laugh-out-loud movies and rooting for warm, relatable characters, you can't go wrong with this one.
