Review of I Do... Until I Don't (2017) by Fawn O — 17 Nov 2018
"I Do... Until I Don't" declines to serve its purpose potential as an observance of the negative side affects of a society bent on archaic traditionalism perpetuated by unnecessary constructs. When it should have addressed the underlying partisan and contentious quarreling, the plot unfolds without proper resolve, removing the possibility of any truly raw or realistic atmosphere, which is the common downfall component of many films found under the romantic-comedy umbrella. Thus, one cannot make heads or tails of its sudden positive marriage-supporting conclusion. To where did all those rising emotional stakes disappear? Now, suddenly, everyone is happy because they realize they have a common enemy outside themselves that upon which they can shove all the blame and displaced marital aggression? In her own right, the antagonist deserved slack for being a victim of the very thesis she was trying to prove in her however misguided documentary.
So this is comedy, eh? For someone who's normally so comediclally sound, Lake Bell could and, probably ought to, have charged her energy to a different project, but I appreciate her efforts toward a likeable cast, even if they had been ultimately ineffectual. Lake Bell still offers some humorous jabs, though.
