Review.

This movie is about an older woman who is suffering from an age crisis and then gets involved with a younger man. Her life is already complicated being a single mom and a television producer but it is about to get even more complicated with the introduction of this new age gapped dating scene. The film starts off quite peculiarly with Tracey Ullman dressed in an angel suit discussing the woes of the world. She is a constant through out the film and you know what. I just do not get the character. She is always there talking with Rosie the lead character. She is a detractor from the film and what ever reason she was added be it quirkiness or humor her Rosie visual conscience never really fit in seamlessly into the film. Rosie herself played by the age defying Michelle Pheiffer was an absolute treat of a character. Her older look worked perfectly with her character trying to remain youthful in spirit. She never has you laughing out loud but does a great job and lets the supporting cast add comedy where they can. Adam played by Paul Rudd is the younger man that Rosie is infatuated with and although he is the ultra geek in this film it somehow works and he is for the most part the funniest thing of this film. Although Rudd and Pheiffers chemistry is weak it works in a film of such obvious quirkiness. The film has a little bit of every style of humor with Rudd delivering a hilarious slapstick scene to announce his entrance. The support characters of Jon Lovitz, Fred Willard, and child actor Saoirse Ronan are just extra comedic characters that have smaller roles but provide huge relief to Rudd who seems to need to be funny in every scene while not always achieving it in this film. He is asked to try joke after joke and while some things worked great others were groaners or eye rollers. The writers also went for some cheap humor picking on Britney Spears and Michael Jackson that I found out of place and unfunny. Not that these two people are not deserved to be made fun of it is just in this film it was cheap and forced into the script. The films relationship between Rosie and Adam although the focal point never really takes root as an interesting story which I found truly odd. I had more interest in Rosies Teen show and Rosies relationship with her daughter then the whole question of dating people outside what is considered appropriate age range. The actual storyline seems to get lost into the mix of the comedy but this film never seems to lose its entertaining quirkiness so a strong story it never needs. The film has all the typical things you would expect from age gapped relationships from Adam loving video games and has more in common with Rosies daughter to sub stories of Rosies daughter trying to catch a boys attention. Although these things have been seen hundreds of times before this films extreme characters make it work. The films ending is nothing shocking and they try to go heartfelt but it comes up tired and cliché with very little in the way of feel good emotions. This is not surprising as the films story was not that compelling. I do give this movie my recommendation as although the story is odd and some of the characters odder the films quirky entertainment left a pretty good impression on me.

T Factor + If you like Paul Rudds comedy then this could score higher on the rating scale.

T Factor â?? If you need a strong story to accompany your humor then this could score less on the rating scale.

If you liked this film reel recommendations: Somethings Gotta Give, or Jersey Girl.
