Review of I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016) by Shelley S — 14 Jul 2017
If you're looking for something to legitimately scar you. This is not the one, to be honest, I fell asleep trying to watch it.the setting is convincing, the actors are decent, and the artistic side of the film is lovely to watch, but as a ghost story, it has no teeth.
It is a strikingly beautiful narrative, reminiscent of poetry, and the pretty thing that lives in the house is infact very pretty, as are the Poe like tones used to describe her cruel fate. But this movie is really not much of a horror.
It's almost painfully slow with no good jump scenes or scares, no hauntingly frightening specters that appear over the heroines shoulder waiting for her to Fall asleep. Unless Mold scares you, and the vaguest of menacing insinuations, then this one is a bit of a let down.
